On February 19/20 2020, I made a road trip to Lake Louise, Alberta. My intention was to take a 360 degree time lapse video of the entire Icefields Parkway. This follows a similar trip in June 2019 (linked here). I was so captivated by the magnificence of the view, I vowed to return and take the same trip in the middle of winter, with snow packed mountains.
As before, The media content is a combination of still photos, panorama photos, video, and 360-degree video. I arrived in Lake Louise in the early afternoon on the 19th, and spent some time taking that in. I had intended to go to Morraine Lake as well, but that area is closed due to avalanche risk.
Everything on these pages is content I captured. If you want to use any of it, please contact me to discuss licensing.
About the 360 degree videos: I use a GoPro Fusion 360-degree video camera to shoot panoramic videos. Despite being 4k+, the resolution is on the soft side. Notwithstanding, the resulting video is pretty impressive. You can use the mouse or pointer to scroll/drag around the entire 360-degree view. At any point, you can pause the video and check out the scene in detail at that point.
About the time-lapse videos: I mounted the GoPro on the roof rack of my car. The video essentially comprise the entire 230 km trip along the parkway, from Lake Louise to Jasper.
About the panoramas: The panoramas are multiple images stitched together to form a single image. The Panorama looks best if viewed in full screen. Click on the icon on the upper right hand corner (with 4 arrows pointing outward). To properly view the Panoramas, if you have a touch screen, drag your finger across the screen and the Panorama scrolls around. Same effect using a mouse (click and hold) on a non-touch device. Also, with a phone or a tablet, you should be able to stand, hold the device level with your eyes and turn around. The image should scroll as if you are actually there turning your head.
